General Information
Many of us are aware of the need to eat a
healthy diet for general good health. Yet more often than not,
it's not until we get a bit older - or a friend or family member
is affected by serious illness - that we are prompted to think
more carefully about our own health. The benefits of a healthy
diet begin in childhood, and can do much to reduce the risk of
premature death or disability later in life. However, taking steps
to improve diet at any time can make significant changes to your
long-term health.

Bones and Joint
Back pain is a fairly universal experience.
Some see it as an inevitable legacy of our evolution, the result
of turning a body designed to hang from a horizontal spine into a
vertical spire, where a carefully balanced mechanism of muscles and
joints must support organs and tissues pulling the column of
vertebral bones downwards.

Fitness
Exercise intensity can be measured in a number of
different ways. In a laboratory it can be measured through gas analysis,
looking at how much oxygen the exerciser is taking into the body and
delivering to the working muscles. In the gym it can be measured using
a heart rate monitor, which records the heart rate at different
workloads. It can also be estimated using the Borg scale, which asks
the exerciser how hard they perceive they're working.

General Well Being
Stress is the result of a struggle or battle that
you don't have the resources to cope with. Some stress at work is
inevitable - it's an inherent part of getting things done, of moving
projects on. And, of course, some jobs are much more stressful than
others, especially if you have to manage others or deal with difficult
situations (nurses and doctors must cope with all sorts of stresses
when human life is at stake).

Women's Health
There's no predicting when the menopause will occur.
Generally, it's between the ages of 45 and 55, but for a few women it
can start as early as 35 - or as late as 60. This doesn't mean you're
in any way abnormal, although an unusually early menopause (before the
age of 36, sometimes as young as 18) may have implications that need to
be addressed.

Kids & Teens
Iron deficiency is one of the most common
nutritional deficiencies, and adolescents are at special risk - up
to 13 per cent of teenage boys and girls were found to have low iron
stores. Rapid growth, coupled with a fast lifestyle and poor dietary
choices, can result in iron-deficiency or anaemia. Teenage girls need
to pay particular attention to iron because their iron stores are
depleted each month following menstruation.

Digestion
By eating a healthy diet and being physically
active, we can maintain a healthy body weight and reduce our risk of
developing diet-related illnesses, such as heart disease and cancer.
However, although healthy eating is pretty straightforward, there's
much confusion among the general public about what constitutes a healthy
diet, as well as a belief by many that they're already consuming a
healthy diet.

Men's Health
Although depression is technically a mental illness,
many of the symptoms of depression are actually physical. Depressed people
find it difficult to get to sleep, or to feel rested when they wake.
Waking through the night, or waking far too early in the morning, is
quite a strong sign of depression.
